If there is
one thing that Public Enemy is known universally for, it’s
opening the eyes of mainstream rap music to political opinions.
Over the last 15 years we have seen and heard
Public Enemy verbally attack popular American politics, the media,
and even the Emergency Medical Service number 911. In Revolverlution,
their ninth album, Public Enemy continues to deliver the shocking
lyrics and political views that they are known for.
Revolverlution
continues to explore these important social topics in a present
day context with such songs as “Son of a Bush” in
which Chuck D., Flava Flav and the rest of the crew pick apart
and question the idiosyncrasies, political stand, and character
that our current president has exhibited.
In addition to reintroducing their admirable and
bold concepts, Public Enemy also explores the connection between
the world wide web and music by conducting a contest on their
web site in which the winners had the opportunity to remix some
previously released tracks for the new album. Five contenders
from all over the U.S. were picked to remix classics such as ‘Public
Enemy No. 1’ and ‘Shut ‘em Down’. The
album also contains three songs recorded live in Switzerland,
San Francisco, and Paris that demonstrate PE is just as explosive
live as they are on vinyl.
